After reading the directions the questions are below for the assignment. Step 1: Develop some questions. Search the internet, read the news, watch TV, etc. Find a current topic in child maltreatment that interests you. Develop some questions you might have about the topic; the development, the prevention, the causes, etc. What more do you want to know about your topic that isn’t being fully addressed in class or that isn’t coming through in the media reports? Step 2: Do a literature review. You have seen what the internet/media/whatever has said about child maltreatment, but now we need to know what the empirical, scholarly literature says about the topic you have chosen. At this point, you should also be refining your questions, making them more specific and more detailed/nuanced and moving from “big questions” to the smaller, answerable, questions. You may use review articles to help you find more specific experimental investigations, but you may only end up citing ONE review article. Step 3: Create an annotated bibliography. Using the five best articles— the ones you that are the best quality and have made you think the most or clarified your questions the most create an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a bibliography where you write a paragraph or so under each citation about the article.; its major findings, its methodology, its sample, its strengths, its weaknesses, etc. The articles should be diverse, but they should all relate to your specific topic and even more specifically, to your narrowed questions. The assignment: 1. What was the main thing you saw/heard/read that peaked your interest about the topic? What is the topic? What are your basic “big” questions to start with? (10 pts) 2. Create an annotated bibliography using the five sources (30 pts) a. For guidelines for writing annotated bibliography http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/ b. You may cite ONE review article. 3. Now that you have read the literature, what is a more specific question? One you could actually test? (10pts)
