Discussion post:
When thinking about emotions that I am hesitant to express, they typically are negative. I think the emotion that has impacted me the most is the demeaned. My father’s side of the family always had trouble accepting my disability. It was very hurtful because they acted like my life should be less satisfying because I have to live differently. This makes me think of Susan’s talk, because I had to acknowledge my feelings in order to be able to accept that just because I didn’t meet my family’s expectations that doesn’t mean my life is any less valuable or meaningful. I think experiencing what I did growing up will help me in assisting others with disabilities in forging their paths.
