There are several assumptions for the use of an independent samples t test. State each of these and the implications should these assumptions be violated. Is it possible for a p value to equal 0? Why or why not?
There are several indices on effect sizes for independent samples t tests. Describe three of these and when one might be used over the others. Next, given a situation in which a research reports a large eta squared effect size (eta squared = .64), why might their reported t value be small and not statistically significant? What may be inference from such a situation? Indicate and provide examples of three of the factors that influence the size of t.

In one paragraph, state the correlation and identify the primary independent variables. State the correlation as in the following:

Identify and defend the “primary” independent variable, or the variable believed to have the strongest impact on the dependent variable:
“The most important independent variable in this relationship is ________ because _________.”
Definition of Variables
For each variable, write a single definition paragraph talking about the variable. Paragraphs should be in this order: dependent variable, primary independent variable, and at least two more independent variables. In addition to defining the independent variables, defend why each determines the dependent variable.
For the primary independent variable, at least two research sources that discuss the variable also must be cited. These sources need not be technical documents but should contain evidence to justify the relationship between the primary independent variable and the dependent variable. List these sources in the Reference Page, as needed. Note: Citations from encyclopedias, Wikipedia, blogs, abstracts, or non-governmental websites are not acceptable research sources in this assignment.
For each of the variables, at least 30 observations of cross-sectional data must be obtained. Thus, for the final research paper, a data matrix that is at least 30 rows by numbers of variables must be presented. This is the case for your mandated dataset, just be sure and acknowledge this in your paper.
The final page of the proposal should be a Reference Page listing at least ten research sources, forming the basis to conduct citing as appropriate. Also, be sure and include sources for any table of data.
Describe your approach to analyzing the data and refer to the guidance provided for the final paper in Unit 8. This section will likely be the most under-developed at this point, but you should have a general idea as to how you intend to analyze your data and arrive at information that can be used in your conclusion and final recommendations.
Write a summary of this attached article that includes the following:
The purpose of the study.
Describe the sample and the population for the study.
Identify the independent and dependent variables (note that there may be more than 1 independent and dependent variable).
Determine the level of measurement used for each of the variables (e.g. nominal, ordinal, interval and/or nominal).
Give the researcher’s hypothesis.
Identify what a Type I error and a Type II error would be in the context of their hypothesis.
Find a measure of central tendency used in the study for one of the variables and describe it (e.g. ‘the researchers stated that the median for age was 55’).
Find a measure of variability used in the study for one of the variables and describe it (e.g. ‘the researchers shared that the variance for number of cigarettes smoked daily was 20’).
Describe the key findings (Don’t worry about reading the ‘results’ section of your chosen article. We will learn more about this in the next few weeks of class. Review the discussion and share the key points from that section of the paper).
This paper should be 1-2 pages in length (excluding cover page and reference page). It is important that you paraphrase (e.g. write in your own words with citations). Use direct quotations sparingly. Make sure that your assignment is in APA style with an APA formatted cover page and reference page.
